QArchiv 1.707: Reliable photo uploads, PDF reports and e-commerce workflows

QArchiv 1.707 prevents empty photo uploads. The Android app combines QR/barcode association, SHA-256 integrity checking, PDF reports and optional upload workflows – for e-commerce, logistics, contractors and many other use cases, in English and German.

Many industries still rely on expensive specialty hardware to produce legally sound documentation photos. QArchiv instead uses what's already in your pocket: an off-the-shelf Android smartphone. The app automatically records system time, GPS location, and optionally a code, barcode, or voice note directly in the photo's tamper-evident EXIF metadata block – additionally secured with a SHA-256 hash.

With versions 1.704 and 1.705, QArchiv has gained an on-device PDF report generator, native TrueQ integration, and a completely rebuilt screen rotation system. The app now fully supports Android 15 and Java 17.

Current in 1.707

The app completes each photo and its EXIF information before exposing the finished JPG. Gallery, PDF reports and uploads skip incomplete or zero-byte photos, and temporary files are cleaned up after camera cancellation. This matters particularly for busy resellers and warehouse workflows.

The new PDF report generator creates professional documentation reports directly on the phone: for each code, reports include photos, timestamps, GPS data, voice notes, and SHA-256 checksums, optionally with the original photos embedded as a ZIP attachment. Alongside the classic FTP server, native TrueQ integration is now available as a second upload target, including optional auto-upload whenever a new code is scanned.

On the camera side, QArchiv has completely rebuilt its screen rotation handling: the preview keeps running uninterrupted while the device rotates, and landscape photos are now saved correctly in every orientation. A new, consolidated settings menu, a left-handed mode, and a smarter gallery with search, filter, and zoom round out the update.

Technical background

QArchiv is built on Kotlin, CameraX, and Google ML Kit for offline barcode recognition (including QR, Data Matrix, EAN, UPC), backed by a Room database. Each photo's SHA-256 hash is computed over the image data, code, and GPS position and stored in the EXIF "Software" field – reproducible and therefore verifiable in court. PDF reports are generated with iTextPDF, and file upload happens either via FTP/FTPS/FTPES to your own server or through the native TrueQ cloud integration. The app now runs fully on Java 17 and Android 15, hardened with R8 obfuscation.
